  • We’ve come a long way since we first started lighting and heating UK homes in 1948. Since then, we’ve grown into one of the largest energy suppliers in the UK, and now have over 10 million customer accounts.

    We employ over 20,000 people across the UK, and enjoy working together as a team to make sure you get energy safely to your home in a sustainable way.

    Safety plays a part in everything we do, ranging from our staff working in our call centres, to our engineers working in all types of conditions outdoors. We employ over 20,000 people across the UK, and enjoy working together as a team to make sure you get energy safely to your home in a sustainable way.

    We recognise that top quality customer service is a vital part of our business. Our aim is to give you a service that we are proud of and make commitments that we can deliver.

    But we’re not stopping there. As part of our efficiency value, we’re keeping things simple to avoid wasting money, materials, energy or time.

    We were the first supplier to stop doorstep selling and simplify our tariffs so it’s easier for our customers to choose the best deal. And because we feel honesty is important, we made our complaints process more transparent, so it’s easy to get problems sorted out.

    And in 2006 we published the first Customer Charter in the energy industry. We believe in making commitments that we can deliver, so we've put together our promises to you so you know what you can expect from us.

    From gas and electricity to phone and broadband, we’ve got something for you. We’ve also got a wide range of energy saving measures for your home. And to make things even better, as one of our customers, you’re entitled to exclusive discounts in our online shop!

    But we know our customers don’t just want to be getting the best energy deals, they also want to get a great customer service. All of our call centres are based in the UK, and our staff are committed to doing the best job they can to make sure you receive the best service possible. That’s why we’ve won lots of awards!

    We like to give things back to our local communities.

    Each of our employees has the chance to swap a normal working day for a day helping their local community. Through our Community at Heart volunteering project, your organisation or charity can ask a team of our employees to work with you for a whole day, free of charge!

    We’re involved in a number of areas, from energy generation, transmission, distribution and supply.

    But we’re also dedicated to helping the environment. We make more energy from wind and water than any other supplier in the UK*. And we're not stopping there! We're constantly looking at ways that we can use the great UK weather and turn it into renewable ways of providing you with energy.

  • Where we've come from

    Atlantic is part of the SSE Group. SSE is a FTSE 100 company, and we’ve grown into one of the largest energy suppliers in the UK, and now have over 10 million customer accounts.

    When we started in 1947, we used to be known as ‘The Southern Electricity Board’, and over the years developed into Southern Electric. In 1998, Southern Electric merged with Scottish Hydro to become Scottish and Southern Energy (now known as SSE).

    In 2000, we welcomed SWALEC into the SSE family, and in 2004 Atlantic joined us too. Our Irish counterpart, Airtricity became part of SSE in 2008. In 2010, we created another brand, simply called SSE.
